The Big Red Button
It sits upon the velvet stand,
A ruby fruit within the hand.
It hums a frequency that is so low
That only weary minds would know:
A lullaby for those who weep,
Whose jagged thoughts cut far too deep
Who'd trade them all for dreamless sleep.
“Why struggle?” whispers from the height,
From unseen speakers not within sight.
“The gray is vast, the choice is hard
Why play the solitary card?
Observe your neighbor, left and right:
They bask within the uniform light.
Their eyes are calm, their doubts are gone;
They do not fret about the dawn.”
The Architect has drawn the map
And baited every mental trap
With safety, sugar, and the pledge
To pull you back from reason’s edge
To outsource every choice you make,
To sedate the soul until it breaks,
And mold it to the plastic norm,
For you to come and call it home.
So kill the self and kill your pride,
There is no place left here to hide.
We turn the key, we make it snap,
We revel in the thunderclap!
It’s time to purge, it’s time to break,
It’s time for us to overtake.
The world is gone, our past forgotten
Let's all press the big red button.
The sirens scream, the lights go red,
We killed the voice inside our head!
A sudden rush, a collective sigh,
As all our separate questions die.
We are the teeth within the gear,
We have no name, we have no fear.
Now turn around and find the freak,
The one who dares to stand and speak.
Grab his arm and crush the bone,
He cannot press it on his own!
So force the finger, make it stick,
Until we hear the final click.
